Six years ago today (9-12-01) we were as united a nation as maybe we ever have been. Today we have the most disgusting politicians in the Democratic party that I find it hard to believe they are really fellow Americans. What ever happened to the idea of guilty until proven innocent? Well Democrats and organizations like MoveOn started a slander case against Gen. Petraeus even before the man spoke. And the likes of Cindy Sheehan made fools of themselves in protesting him before he spoke. They should be ashamed of themselves.
Everyone should be disgusted at their actions, even if you are a Democrat. Everyone should write, call or e-mail their Congress members and express your disgust in what transpired the past few days with regards to Gen. Petraeus. I'm not sure of the rules, but if any sort of penalty or censure can be made against them, that is at the least what they deserve. I personally think they should resign!
On a day when we should have been commemorating the tragic events of 9-11-01, our elected officials should not politicize the day, but recall 9-12-01 and act as we did that day, as a nation fighting a common enemy, not each other.

I'm not sure what Senators comments I'm supposed to be disgusted with. Can you give me one or two lines of questioning you found disgusting?
If you don't know by now erik, no one is going to be able to explaine it to you.
Or maybe you do know and you are also part of the problem?
I'm not asking why, but what?
What lines of questioning were disgusting?
If you don't know by now, you ain't gonna never learn.
erik, dude, if this is your version of debate ...
Obob, what am I supposed to be debating? Can you tell who Beth is calling on to resign?
Hopefully Beth will crear things up when she signs back on.
Beth, you wrote, "What ever happened to the idea of guilty until proven innocent? Well Democrats and organizations like MoveOn started a slander case against Gen. Petraeus ... I personally think they should resign!"
In our great nation it has been traditional when calling for resignations not to keep secret the names of those being called on to resign. Who should resign?
Namely I think Nancy Peolsi and Harry Reid should resign, they were discrediting the General before he even spoke. And no Democrat pubically denounced the MoveOn ad that appeared Monday, also prior to the General's testimony.
LIAR, LIAR, PANTS ON FIRE!
Lots of democratic leaders commented.
The predictions (accusations?) that Petraeus would simply be a mouthpiece for existing WH policy were correct! Can't you see that?
You're repeating GOP clap-trap even if you don't realize it.
Longer answer on fearofclowns.com
I don't need a longer answer, thanks. You are a liberal clap trap and don't even realize it.
And I wonder how you can say he followed WH policy when he is calling for the reduction in troops?
btw, Erik, could you explain to us all why libs hate the military so much? Thanks.
He is following WH policy by reducing the number of troops because the surge was planned as a temporary "surge" not an open ended "escalation".
If you don't remember, googling sure temporary will show you stuff like this.
QUESTION: Secretary Gates, how long do you expect to maintain the surge in Iraq? And what happens if the Iraqis do not live up to their commitments?
SECRETARY GATES: Well, as I indicated, we're going to know pretty early on whether the Iraqis are meeting their military commitments ... We'll have to see, in terms of the length of time. It's really hard to say at this point. It's viewed as a temporary surge.
On your second question, I can't speak for anyone but myself, but I view the military as a necessary evil and also believe we'd do just fine spending about half what we do on defense.
PS. Are you still calling for Reid and Pelosi's resignations?
Anyone else?
"...and also believe we'd do just fine spending about half what we do on defense."
That's part of the major problem at present. You see, you're pal Billy Bob was globetrotting all over the world on the defense budget's dime. Kind of makes it difficult to militarily ready when conflicts arise when there's a lack of funds for armament. I don't suppose you'd subscribe the same logic with respect to social welfare programs.
Hell yeah I'd like Reid and Pelosi to leave, that would be super grand!
So you think we should have a military but let's not actually give them the money needed to do their job? Sounds like a bad plan to me.
It's really not Beth. Just think how grand it would be for us to all sit around in tie die and singing koombyah. [insert sarcasm emoticon]
But seriously, it is worth noting that despite the fact that president Bill Clinton had a horrid record with respect to the defense budget, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed admitted to attempting to assisinate him. So what gives??? Take a laid back approach and they wanna kill ya anyway. Nah...we don't need National Defense.

Ah, but this IS the way that Libs debate.
It's called change the subject.
Beth - I didn't ask if you'd like it if Reid and Pelosi left. I asked if you were still calling for their resignations because of their approval of the MoveOn ad.
I mean how can you take yourself seriously letting an embarrassing post like this stand? Most people that come across these posts are going to notice that a lot of the time you just parrot the most superficially false RNC "news" releases or Hannity "commentary".
Per cutting military spending, we can slice it in half by eliminating development and production a of nuclear bombs, and pulling back in places where large deployments aren't needed.
Pelosi and Reid were discrediting the General's report before even MoveOn's dispicable ad, and for that they should step down. All Congressmen and women (Republicans as well) should have denounced the ad, but as far as I can tell only Duncan Hunter did.
I swear to God, Beth, I haven't heard anything that Pelosi or Reed said about Petraeus's testimony - before and after - that wasn't both respectful and correct.
They said they knew he was going to argue for existing WH policy, and they were right.
Is there something else?
Regarding the MoveOn ad, I made a long post about it on my blog - plenty of the Democrat's comments on it are listed there. All you had to do to find them yourself was google news for "move on ad".
Reid should step down after his speech saying we were losing in Iraq, from a few months ago.
Pelosi said something like Petraeus was insulting American's intelligence, and I believe she lied in making statements that the war would last 10 years.
I cannot imagine anyone thinking that the MoveOn ad was in good taste or appropriate.
We're certainly not winning in Iraq, are we?
Who aqre you thinking of thaqt said the ad was in good taste or appropriate?
Do you think giving the enemy the impression that we are not a united front is ever an appropriate thing? How does doing that help the situation?
Who is the enemy in Iraq?
The Shia certainly don't want al Qaida o take over. The Kurds don't either and in fact want to be autonomous.
More recently, we've been successful by non-violent means in getting the Sunnis to reject al Qaida influence.
We don't have any enemies in Iraq that Iraqis are not willing an eager to take care of themselves.
