A local 75 year old woman recently killed a fawn with a shovel because she was tired of the deer eating her flowers (I got mad, too, but then I stopped buying and planting flowers so I save money and don't give the deer a salad bar, but I digress...)
Is there outrage? I am sure some would blame this act on her advanced age, but let's suppose it was a 16 year old boy who didn't want the fawn around so he attacked and killed it. He would be labelled a monster, and animal rights activists would be up in arms and calling for harsh punishment for this boy, right? I don't think you'd have too may activists fighting on the boy's side.
But why is there such division about abortion, where the unborn baby is attacked and killed because the mother doesn't want him in her womb?

Having recently lost two young cats senselessly imo I lean more in the direction of some animal rights positions at least in the sense of it's by no means contradictory for a conservative to say we should respect animals more and have more compassion for them but for the record no I'm not an official animal rights activist in the sense that people and animals have the same rights. I did make this point at my blog not that long ago however, that to be fair to the animal rights side when you stop to think about ALL the medical research done on animals to find cures for various diseases and what do we have to show for it? Again not to take their position but it's like the cats and the chimps and the mice suffered for nothing. I'm gonna break this down into two parts but just wanted to let people know how I feel about animals.
I too don't get the contradiction about abortion, how folks can be for animal rights...in fact I worked with a gay guy in a library once and he said he's against fishing because it involves taking a life (yes his words even though you may later cook and eat the fish) but always made fun of those he labelled simply anti-abortion (never pro-life). A gay pro-abortion animal rights guy, somewhere in there is a contradiction (or two or three).
I hope she at least filled the freezer with that great-tasting venison, or gave it to someone else who would. I hate senseless killing, but if it goes to good use then it's ok by me.
She's a psycho Joe, hope she doesn't move next to me!
I mean she's the type that might do something to your cat, know what I'm sayin'? Cat digs a little hole in her tulip bed, takes a poop, covers it up and then she's hanging little Tootsie on her clothesline.
Her intention was not to fill her freezer, but what is really troubling to me in general is that people are disgusted by her actions but not an abortion doctor's.
I agree totally as you know but ya gotta have outrage here, what she did to that poor fawn is beyond the pale. Yeah George Tiller got a pass, you're right on the money there.
Oh yes, there should be outrage over both acts of senseless violence against living creatures, done solely because the living creature is not wanted.
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say but they'd be against aborting a whale fetus let's say.
I would not have thought of the connection but now that you bring it up it's obvious and disturbing indeed.
