type='text'>That wonderful sense of entitlement!

You probably have heard the story of the crazy woman who rented a Hummer limo, went into a Burlington store, and told everyone she would pay up to $500 of their purchase, only for people to realize it wasn't going to happen.

If not, the story is here.

So, what did these people do when they got their "free stuff" taken away from them? They started a riot and some actually just stole stuff, justifying it that they were owed this "free stuff" (why that is I would like to know!) I mean they went in there shopping for whatever they planned on buying, with their own money or credit card to pay for what they could afford and needed, right? Could it be human nature at work here that made them think when someone told them they'd get free stuff, that they thought that they were actually entitled to it?

This is why those of us who think government programs meant to "help" people is generally a bad idea. They may say it's a temporary thing, but once you give people free stuff, and then you try to take it away, they get a little testy. And it's wrong when people think they should even get free stuff in the first place, isn't it?

If the woman really did win the lottery and wanted to do something nice for strangers, then it would be her decision and right to give away money like that, but nobody should ever expect it.

Do you agree?

My husband and I were discussing the silliness of Obama winning the Nobel Peace Prize this morning, and my husband said that there is just corruption everywhere so the prize shouldn't surprise anyone. And it's not just our government, it's in big business, in the Catholic Church, in charities like United Way (see a trend of organizations that are kinda BIG?) I agreed, of course, because it's as obvious as the nose on your face that there is corruption everywhere, but where my views differed from my husband is that he thinks I might as well just accept that there is corruption and there is nothing we can do about it. Me, I like to think that we can overcome the corruption, get back to the basics, you know? Get things back to the more local level and not so big, where we can be held more accountable, and can expect personal responsibility from others.

So, what do you think, do you agree we're past the point of no return, or can the corruption around us be overcome?

This is not a joke

Update in this morning's newspaper: The program has been postponed for now pending further studies (i.e. lots of people were pissed off including the governor) but do read on to see the negative affects of monopolies (and government programs can fall under that category!!)

Our lovely state of Ohio passed a law to reduce energy use by 2025, so our wonderful Public Utilities Commission approved a program for our electric company to distribute to their customers two low energy light bulbs. Some of these Chinese made bulbs will be handed out in person by a California company (way to help the local economy here!), others will be mailed. But here is the kicker, you cannot NOT take them. You will be charged for them whether you use them or not. AND you will be charged EXTRA because although the bulbs should save energy, then the poor electric company will lose money with your lower energy use. Did I mention that this is NOT OPTIONAL?

Read it here!

Dennis Kucinich is actually fighting against this, I never thought I'd say this, but way to go Dennis!

Why I think Glenn Beck pisses off the left

If there wasn't a shred of truth in what he says, then why would the leftists be so damn bent on discrediting him? I have been thinking how very sad it is that someone actually thinks that about Americans. Because this week after a violent act injured someone I know, to see the outpouring from the community to help his family has been truly wonderful to see.

Now not all Americans are like this, and some are moreso than most. But just like in the court of law, one is presumed innocent until proven guilty, the goodness of people and the compassion for others is something I guess I just presume.

But if the response that Patrick received is standard for a liberal, then they really do assume the worst in people and for some reason think that the government instead has some altruistic virtue that supercedes personal charity. Maybe I am too optimistic a person to understand that sort of logic.

To piggyback on Z-man's posting on free speech

The other day, Z-man posted about how people use incidences of violence to try to silence their opposing views in this post at Stranded in Civilization but noting that it is only those on the left who seem to do that lately. Point being that we can try to stop free speech and these random acts of violence will not go away, and to that I would have to agree.

Recently a mailman in a city 20 miles from where I live was shot and killed for no reason. Two nights ago, not even a half a mile from where I live, a man I know was stabbed by a 12 year old boy because the man confronted the boy for shooting some sort of air pistols at other kids. People are outraged of course, but they always seem to look for a scapegoat in these sort of incidences, it was their poor upbringing (either monetarily poor or lack of good parenting), or too much violent video games, or rap music, you name it, people want to find a reason this person did it.

How about that they thought they were being cool doing it? His plan is a good one, we need to clean up Washington first before anything else. We need to get back to the principles that our country was founded upon. There were only 56 signers of the Declaration of Independence who changed the world when they signed it. We don't need to reinvent America, we just need to get back to the principles! We need to support any politician in Washington who recognizes this and takes a stand to restore our republic, I know I will. This coming year does commemorate the 100 year anniversary of Boy Scouting, which also is exciting. If you have a boy in grade 1 - 5, I highly recommend looking into joining your local Pack, and plan on volunteering some of your time, too. It struck me as odd, different from the usual "have a nice day!" But then I got to thinking, how do you "have" a nice day? It's not tangible, you cannot "own" or "have" a day (good or bad). A simple "make it a great day" is a reminder to us that Life throws us all sorts of challenges, but we can "make" the most of it. "Make" is a verb, an action, and we cannot just sit back and wait for positive things to come to us, we have to DO stuff to get it to come. To "have" something is just to possess, not to actually create.

Therefore, I like the new motto, maybe Bon Jovi could re-write his song.

Oh yes, make it a great day everyone.

Questions from Me

Okay, not too many people wanted to take a stab at the questions posed below, from a list by Glenn Beck, but here are some questions I am pondering tonight.

Seems like socialism, and even communism, are becoming more popular in America these days. People are pretty openly socialists and communists, right? It's supposedly the natural progression of life they say.

So, whether you believe that God gave you life, or that nature is what gives you life, we can agree that we are all unique persons. We each have different abilities and talents. And really thank God (or nature) for that, because I think it would be rather boring if we were all exactly the same.

And yet the socilaist/communist thinks we as a society need to be the same, have exactly the same. But why then does God or nature not make us that way to begin with? Why FORCE it? I mean if evolution occurred because of the survival of the fitest, then wouldn't socialism seem to be trying to knock down the fitest to a middle ground position unnaturally?

Some questions that deserve answers

My post earlier was vague I know, about how people aren't really paying attention, so here is a list from the Glenn Beck website of question he has, and that many Americans like myself would like to know the answers to:

- Why do we need a civilian force?
- Who is posing a threat to us?
- Who will this "force" be made up of?
- Who is the real enemy?
- Does the president know of a coming event? If not, who builds an army against an unrecognized enemy?
- Why won't the media get off their butts and look into these radicals in the White House? And into this civilian army?
- Why does the FCC have a diversity "czar"?
- Who is Mark Lloyd and how does he plan to "balance" the airwaves?
- Will he bring back the Fairness Doctrine or worse?
- Cass Sunstein once said he wants to balance the Internet; is that next?
- Will broadcasters who leave the airwaves be allowed to go to satellite or Internet without government regulation?
- Is there any place (that has a mass audience) where the government won't regulate free speech?
- Why does it seem every member of the Obama advisory team hates capitalism, unless those companies (like G.E.) are in bed with the administration?
If Lloyd has his way, stations who don't comply to the governments definition of the "public interest" will have to pay a massive fine — that helps support public broadcasting:
- What will be the definition of "public interest"?
- Who defines "public interest"?
- Why should it be balanced? Because it's public airwaves? (Well, there are public roads that go by my house and I don't count how many Republicans and Democrats are driving on them)
- Who is "surrounding" the President in the White House?
- Do any of the President's advisers have criminal records?
- Are the President's advisers working to better the country or their own ideals?
- Who are the anti-capitalists in Washington?
- What roles do they have in crafting bills?
- What was "STORM"? What happened to the founders, where are they now?
- What qualifications must one have to be a Presidential adviser?
- What is the difference between a community organizer and a community activist?
- Do the czars have power?
- Should a communist have the ear of the President of the United States?
- What role did the Apollo Alliance play in crafting bills?
- Does the President know the co-founder of the Weather Underground is a board member of the Apollo Alliance?
- How many people in the administration are connected to the movement for a democratic society?
- What role does George Soros play... CONSTITUTIONALLY?
- Our unfunded liability for Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid is close to $100 trillion. Is there any way to pay for these programs without bankrupting America?
- We are in so much debt, why spend more borrowed money on cap-and-trade and healthcare programs before we stop the flow of red-ink?
- The stimulus package funneled billions of dollars to ACORN. How does giving billions of dollars to ACORN stimulate the economy?
- If it was so important for congress to pass the stimulus bill before they even had time to read it why has only a fraction of the stimulus money been spent 6 months later?
- Bush said he had to abandon free market principles in order to save them, how exactly does that work?
- Why won’t members of Congress read the bills before they vote on them?
- Why are citizens mocked and laughed at when they ask their congressman to read the bills before they vote on them?
- Was the cash-for-clunkers program meant to save the earth or the economy? Did it accomplish either?
- How did Van Jones, a self-proclaimed communist become a special advisor to the president?
- Did President Obama know of Van Jones’ radical political beliefs when he named him special advisor?
- The Apollo Alliance claimed credit for writing the stimulus bill—why was this group allowed to write any portion of this bill?
- If politicians aren’t writing the bills and aren’t reading the bills, do they have any idea what these 1000 page plus bills actually impose on the American people?
- If the ‘public option’ health care plan is so good why won’t politicians agree to have that as their plan?
- If town hall meetings are intended for the politicians to learn what’s on our mind—why do they spend so much time talking instead of listening?
- Politicians are refusing to attend town hall meetings complaining, without evidence, that they are scripted. Does that mean we shouldn’t come out and vote for you since every campaign stop, baby kiss and speech you give is scripted?
- Why would you want to overwhelm the system?
- Is using the economic crises to rush legislation through congress what Rahm Emanuel meant when he talked about "not letting a crises go to waste"?
- What are the czars paid? What is the budget for their staffs/offices?

OVERALL, I say anything proposed legislation or decision made by the POTUS should be held up to the Constitution, and determined what part of the Constitution actually gives our executive officer or legislators the duty or power to make the decision or pass the law being considered.
