Soapie posted at his blog something that I was not aware of, that both Santorum and Gingrich will not be on many primary ballots because they did not do the necessary things to get on the ballot there, so it is impossible for either of them to win the nomination without those 500+ delegate votes. So, my question is, why are they still raising money and going on with their campaigns? Isn't it unethical to take donations for campaigns that have a zero chance?

So, it does appear that Soapie is counting his chickens before they hatch, so to speak, or in this case not counting delegates that may in fact be counted later on for Santorum or Gingrich.

Years are just numbers, they just mark time. We shouldn't need the start of a new year to recognize that we can make improvements in ourselves. In fact, I feel like I am a constant work-in-progress!

Soapie says we need to not talk the talk but walk the walk, and that is exactly what Glenn Beck does. He has started a charity whose premise is to create jobs by actually starting businesses and then using funds from those businesses to fund charitable things.

Honestly, we need to look in the mirror to start solving problems we see, it's not good to think it's the government job to solve problems. They don't have the best track record on taking care of business anyway.

Why Everyone should think like a Conservative

Who doesn't like maximum freedom? Conservatism is about maximum freedom! Now, that does require being responsible for oneself, but the upside is that you get to live your life without someone else (the government) intervening when it truly isn't wanted or even appropriate for them to do so.

With maximum freedom, you have a free market economy. That means people chose to buy what they want to, and not what the government tells you to (or pushes you towards, i.e. "green products"). The government doesn't get to pick the winners and losers in the free market, because good products sell and crappy ones don't. Therefore, it is in the best interest of the businesses making products or selling services to make the best, thus they want to hire the best, so if you work hard and do a good job, then you can succeed! It's a win-win-win situation.

Let's say, however, things are going fine for you, but you want to help others who are not so fortunate, well Conservatism is great for that, too! Because unlike progressives, who want to provide everything for everyone, you can give your time or money where you want to, instead of paying lots of taxes and hoping it helps the people who truly need help.

If anyone can explain how putting your trust in a bunch of politicians to take care of everyone works better than maximum freedom, I am dying to understand how it all works, because history has shown that it really doesn't.

I truly do not understand the Wall Street protests. If you are someone who hates banks and bankers, then do not put your money in a bank, do not take a loan from them, it's a free country, no one is making you deal with banks or bankers.

If you hate corporations, don't do business with them. Nobody has a gun to your head and is telling you to buy an iPhone or eat at McDonalds. If you think the stock market sucks, don't buy stocks. Don't work for a corporation if you don't like them, but leave these options available for people like me who want to be able to buy things from corporations if I desire, what's it to you if I do? It's a free country.

If you think that you are very rich and don't pay enough in taxes, go ahead and send more. There is a way you can donate to the government. But don't force me to want to do the same, I research where I am going to donate my money to make sure it is going to a cause I believe in, and will be used properly. If you think the government is the best way to help people, by all means, go ahead and send your charitable dollars there, it's your money and it's a free country, so you can if you want.

If you think Jesus wants us to live in communes and give our money to the commune and divide it equally, you are free to do that. Even if there are zoning laws where maybe you all can't live in one big house together, you are still free to find others who share that same feeling and divide up all your money with them. I don't think that is illegal, is it?

So, you see, in a country designed as our was, to let us be free to pursue our happiness, then anyone can just go ahead and do that; however, it was also designed where we don't do so at the expense of others (otherwise known as infringing on others rights).

So then, why are people protesting in Wall Street?

The title is a phrase Glenn Beck said yesterday on his show, and it pretty much encompasses my philosophy. Because we can "vote" with our dollars, then where we spend our hard earned dollars should go to the places WE feel is right. Therefore, if you think Wal Mart is the devil incarnate, then hey, don't shop there. If you think giving to a certain charity is the way to help people, then you should get to choose. I know my family, we don't spend a lot on entertainment, don't go to many movies or shows. But we're more inclined to go to a fund raising event, which helps someone and could be our night out.

However, when the government tries to take over certain segments of the economy in order to influence our purchases, or wants more tax money so they can decide where to "help" people(i.e income redistribution), it takes that freedom away from you and me to decide where our money goes.

That is why the leftists need to try to make the Tea Party and those of us on the right as evil people, because our way is the logical, proper way where everyone has maximum freedom, and everyone chooses where their dollar "votes" go. So they need to marginalize us because their ideas have no merit.

We forget that the great experiment, which is our country, and the new government it formed had to be "sold" to the people back then, some weren't so sure about it. So, today we need to re-convince people that it is a good idea, which should be easier because we have the history of it succeeding behind us. The Civil War begins again next week

No, this isn't a post about how we are divided as a nation (although we truly are) but rather an explanation of why I haven't been blogging around as much. I am on the committee for our middle school's Civil War en-enactments, which occur next week, and so I have been busy scheduling teams and finding parent volunteers. Tuesday is the encampment, where some students take on the role of a Civil War era person, and the other students get to watch. There's a campfire and stories to cap the night. Then on Friday is the Ball, where the girls are in hoop skirts and they do the Virginia Reel and the boys in the Union or Confederate uniforms to some maneuvers. My daughter is in the play as one of the narrators, too. Some very cool stuff, the kids always look forward to it, and hopefully learn something important.

Too much hospital time lately

The Cleveland Clinic is doing well, in part thanks to my family. A few weeks ago, my daughter needed to go downtown to the mail campus because of heart irregularities (she is fine, just needed tests run and monitoring). Of course my Mom still goes there twice a week for outpatient therapy, but she also had a medical trip there this week due to shortness of breath, and now my three year old nephew is there this weekend for dehydration. Just too much hospital time in my opinion!

The reason for high gasoline and food prices is simple. The Federal Reserve is printing lots of money, right? Well, remember that supply/demand says that if something is plentiful, then it is cheap and something rare is more expensive? If the Fed just adds lots of money to the economy (they are monetizing the debt) then the value of each dollar out in circulation goes down. Therefore, it takes more of those dollars than previously required to buy all the things we need to buy, like gas and food.

I took a break from reading Beck's "Broke" to read the book he co-wrote with Dr. Keith Ablow, in which Beck is telling his story of being at the lowest point in his life, an alcoholic and drug addict who lost everything but ended up being OK. But it was not because some government program helped him, or welfare. It came from within Glenn deciding he wanted a better life for himself. Sure, he needed the help of others, but it was up to him to seek the help, and ultimately he himself to work through things in his own way to get past his troubles and turn his life around. Anyone can do the same, its the liberals who don't think anyone can. They would prefer you think you need them to help you navigate through life, so be sure to vote for them over and over and over again. It is we conservatives who know we each within ourselves can be the best we can be if we motivate ourselves and work towards the goals we want to set and hopefully reach. Also then we can be proud of our own accomplishments, too.

So, Glenn is a problem for the lefties, he shows by example that anyone can come from being down and out to reach great heights! They need to shut him up so others don't get the idea that they can do it themselves, too, and might not need Big Government doing things for them.

The other day, a story caught my eye on Yahoo about an indoor trampoline place where kids and adults (with proper helmets and signed waivers, of course) can bounce around in this huge multi-trampoline room. Under these Yahoo stories, people can leave comments, much like people can comment here at blogs. Many of the comments were "cool, I wish there was one of those near me!" and "I would totally like to do that if it were near me!"

To which I thought, what you people are really saying is: "I want some risk taker who either has a lot of money, or one who will gather enough investors and build one near me, pay employees to work there, pay a ton of insurance, spend lots of time and money getting it off the ground, including marketing the place as well as maintaining it, so that I can go to a place like that and have fun."

Right?

And then, the liberals will say, if that place is a big hit and the risk taking owner and/or investors make a lot of money at this business, well then they are evil and should be paying more taxes.

Am I right?

Yes, I am.

But I am thinking of looking into a franchise for one of those places anyway.

The SOTU Address

Yes, President Obama is my president, but that doesn't mean I have to watch his State of the Union address. I'd rather watch grass grow or paint dry. And it isn't because he is a bad speaker, when he has his teleprompter working properly, his addresses are very well done. It is the content that makes me want to throw up. Because he thinks that government is always the answer, whereas I think it is usually the problem.

I am currently reading Glenn Beck's "Broke" (also reading his and Dr. Ablow's "7" based on my mood) and in "Broke" Beck points out how easily just about every president since FDR has used and abused spending our tax dollars to buy votes. This is precisely why our country was founded on principles where the government was NOT suppose to be giving to charity. If you haven't read it, I recommend you read from a speech by Col. David Crockett:

Yes, there could sometimes be causes that we all wouldn't mind our tax dollars getting used to help someone in need, but the point is that if we all feel that way, we can all give ourselves, we don't need the government to do it for us. However, since we hardly ever agree on anything, then doesn't it make sense that we also have different ideas on who to give charitably to? This is why the conservative values is that that is how we should give, not the government doing it but US doing it. Then also the politicians cannot be using charity to "buy" our votes.

So, if you are a liberal and do watch the State of the Union address this Tuesday, keep that in mind whenever the president mentions any amount of money going to whatever pet project he says he wants to do. Because it really isn't his or yours to give.

Getting away from it all

I was out of town this weekend with our Cub Scout Pack in an area of Pennsylvania that doesn't get very good cell phone reception, and definitely not Wi Fi. And although I am addicted to the computer, I was glad to have the chance to "get away from it all" with my kids for a few days. Even though that meant that I was only one of three women there among 70 men and boys.

The Dads last night, while letting their boys run around the lodge so they could play poker lamented that there were no TVs there, to which I said you are suppose to spend time with your kids this weekend, not watch TV (they didn't get the hint). Some said their phones could get reception, but their Smartphones couldn't get the Internet. Wow, they were roughing it.

In retrospect, I am glad we didn't have to hear about the shooting in Arizona yesterday. As a matter of fact, since coming home, I have read a few things online, but unlike a lot of others, I am not going to jump to conclusions about the motive or the shooter because I prefer to wait until all the facts have come out.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families of the tragedy.

1,000+ Facebook friends is meaningless

I just heard a local radio station talking about a woman with 1,048 Facebook friends who posted that she took all her pills and was going to die, and she did. I found that pretty sad, that not one "friend" seemed to try to do anything to help her. I only have like 24 friends, mostly family. I don't think having a thousand friends seems to equate to happiness, or maybe this proves that real friends don't need social media websites.

I always hate to say my Mom is doing well, because whenever I did, she seemed to end up in the hospital, so I will say she is coming along at home these days. I don't get to see her as much actually, the skilled facility she was at was closer to my home, plus my work hours have increased, but I do talk to her almost everyday.

The whole family will actually be together for Christmas, which hardly ever happens, so that should be good.

I was just sitting at work listening to Christmas music on the radio when just an overwhelming sense of sadness overcame me, and I am thinking this music should make me feel good, shouldn't it? I don't think I have mentioned that my Mom is back home now, but it is almost sadder to see her there because she is not the same person as she used to be, so seeing her there in her old place of living but not living the same kind of life makes me sad. Glenn Beck told of Soros' early years and how he helped collapse currencies and governments, but how did this guy make so much money in the first place? He became a US citizen in 1956 I believe they reported, could (gasp!) a capitalistic economy be what gave Mr. Soros much of the money that he has amassed? So then why is he so against capitalism and the USA?

He wants a One World government, and is funneling money into all sorts of 501(3)c organizations to create shadow governments and such to make that happen. When I think of the huge amounts of money he has poured into these organizations, now I know it is his money to spend as he sees fit, but couldn't he actually help a lot of people in the world who could use some charity instead of using all that money to push for the One World Government? How is that going to help people in need? Why not be like Bill Gates and actually help people? I'll tell you why, there is no POWER in charity, that is why.

So when our county, which totally changed by vote the county government in the wake of corruption by Democrats, then turns around and votes a bunch of Democrats into those new positions, it is beyond insanity. I have been lamenting the loss of a friendship, one I never ever thought would end the way it did. And it made me think of the election this Tuesday and how we put our trust that the candidates we want to win will do the right thing by our Constitution and by we their constituents. But you know just like friends disappoint us, our elected officials (even the ones we like and vote for) can piss us off. Which is why we need politicians who understand this about human nature and will get in there and reduce the size and scope of the government so that a limited government will not be in a position to disappoint us, and we'll all become reliant on ourselves and never let them have so much power over us again.

Friendships

Something Malcontent commented in my last posting made me think of the saying that it is better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all. I think that is mostly true, even when a friendship ends, maybe it never really was what you thought it was, but that doesn't mean there wasn't some value to it all along.

While visiting my mom on Sunday evening, we caught part of an interview on 60 Minutes with the Gates' regarding their foundation and how they go about giving away their money. Now when liberals talk about capitalists, they act like they are spawn from the devil, unless of course you are a member of Congress, then having lots of money is just fine and dandy...but I digress.

Bill and Melinda Gates to me are wonderful role models on how you can achieve, and then on your own decide that you wish to give charitably to the causes you want to help.

I think my boss' story is a good one to illustrate why individualism and capitalism is great, and how the government can really put the screws to businesses.

My boss graduated from MIT and was working at Nasa when she started her family. When she had her first child, she wanted to be at home but also work. So, she created a software program and worked from home, doing all the marketing, accounting and software developing herself. As her business grew, her husband left his job to join her, and they hired one other programmer. Then they hired an accounting guy who ended up becoming COO (Chief Operating Officer) and then someone to do the accounting stuff for him, while he branched out into the marketing area. The accounting person ended up becoming also a programmer and tech support person, so lo and behold I was given a job there to relieve her of her accounting duties. So within 12 years, one entrepreneur ended up with a company of 6 employees.

Now remember when President Obama talks about only taxing those who make over $250,000? That applies to people like my boss, because the company is an S-Corp, the profits of the company are part of her and her husband's personal tax return. So, she puts in her time, talent, and risked capital and ended up creating at least 5 other jobs, but if she ends up making a profit more than $250,000, she gets slammed as some sort of evil uber rich person. Forget that the minivan she drives is older than mine, I know that she also gives charitably of her time and her money to local causes. But, to the leftists, she is evil if she happens to make more than $250,000 and deserves to be punished. In what realm does this even make sense??

Currently, business is doing well, and she is thinking of hiring another programmer/tech support person. But she is evil, how can she do that without even getting a bailout??

Oh yeah, she is willing to work hard and take risks, how evil!!

The definition of socialism:

NOUN:

Any of various theories or systems of social organization in which the means of producing and distributing goods is owned collectively or by a centralized government that often plans and controls the economy.
The stage in Marxist-Leninist theory intermediate between capitalism and communism, in which collective ownership of the economy under the dictatorship of the proletariat has not yet been successfully achieved.

For some stupid reason, people who call themselves socialists think they can turn socialism into something different in America, like some sort of American-style socialism where we don't lose our freedoms. Well the definition of socialism doesn't jive with that, it is about controlling people, and that is not freedom in any way, shape or form.

Whenever members of Congress pass a law, or makes some sort of "Pledge to America", I want you to think of the US Constitution, then look at the definition of socialism above, and decide which of the two it seems to be more like.

A little less exhausted

The day I wrote my last blog was the day we found out that my Mom had pneumonia, and we were so worried that it was going to be a huge set-back in her recovery, and even she was really down about it (I mean even more down than she sometimes can be) but tonight when I visited her, her spirits were about the best I have seen since her stroke, and made me feel so much better thinking that she is feeling better. I hope her positive words tonight will keep up!

I know Soapie and Z-man are also on Yahoo, but I am getting tired of all the ads that pop up everywhere, like a new one on the My Yahoo page that cannot be moved, and it has taken the place of where I had the weather app. I was going to use Mozilla Thunderbird (which is like Outlook) to access my mail, but found out that you have to have Yahoo Mail Plus to be able to access your mail through it, which I don't want to do.

So, has anyone switched their e-mail address and realized it was too great a headache afterward?

President Lincoln only wanted to try to keep the union together, but I simply cannot see where the two views of America are ever going to be reconciled and be able to come to a consensus. We are a divided nation. There are those who hold rallies to restore honor, and then there are those who will mock that. There are those who want a land of opportunity, and then there are those who want a land of handouts. There are those who just want to work and enjoy the fruits of their labor, and there are those who think they have some right to the fruits of other people's labor. And there are those who think the unborn deserve respect and a chance at life, and there are those who think that human lives are dispensable if they cause a burden to you.

I would personally love it if we could divide this nation into those of us who want simple respect and good luck to the rest of you, you'll need it.
